Adventures of the garden patch

September Harvest

Only a small harvest, I pulled out the rest of the Maris Piper potatoes, and rescued what i could from the carrot and onion patch that has been ravaged by caterpillars so unfortunately the ones left are a bit small as you can see!

Greenhouse tomatoes

Since re-potting the tomato plants have grown nicely. Today I had them all out of the greenhouse so I could make sure they were all OK, and make sure I caught all the upcoming shoots from the stems…

Pea pods

The tendrils have really strated using the canes now for support, and nearly all are now growing upwards along the canes instead of sideways,

and a few of the plants have started flowering now so its good job that the plants are using the support so that they will be able to sustain the weight of the pods :)

Ripe Strawberries! :D

After their time in the greenhouse the strawberries have nearly ripened, while the weather is not to bad I have decided to place them now outside, I am also hoping that this will decrease the amount of white fly that has been attracted to them and that maybe a lower temperature and the odd spell of rain will help to dislodge them, (just hopefully not onto my other plants!).

You can just about see all the remaining white fly on the soil at the front of the pot…

beetroot

My beetroot leaves are getting nice and big they are now probably just under about half the size im hoping they will grow to. I am happy that there seems to be enough space for each one to grow out, there are some which are obviously growing a lot quicker and larger than others but when they get a bit bigger I can start to use a few of the leaves for salads to thin them out.

Happy Garden Peas!

My garden peas have now started using the trellis i have trained them up, their tendrils have now attached to the trellis allowing the pea plants to grow upwards. Although some have started winding round the inside of the trellis and connecting their tendrils in the middle for support. These plants have also started flowering, unfortunately the pea plants on the smaller trellis have not started flowering yet but again there tendrils have now started using their mini trellis as its support…
