Adventures of the garden patch

Last wave of seeds…

These are my last batch of seedlings it’s probably a little bit late for the Alicante tomatoes but im hoping, they will catch up in the green house they seem to be growing very quickly in the windowsill, they all like the nice volume of sunshine, and the nice heat through the window. The sweetpeas are also doing really well i am thinking of just re-potting them straight into the trellis when they get a little bit bigger, so that they don’t have to experience too much root disturbance and have a chance of growing nice big roots from early on. Again the sunflowers are doing really well and are growing height fairly quickly. This time I have planted just three to a small pot and they have grown a lot quicker with the extra room to grow, i also think that they will be easier to re-plant, as their roots will not be as tangled as the last sunflower plants…

As you can see on the right is my first attempt of growing lavender from seed, the shoots only came up slowly, and then all of a sudden in the last week, they have all started dying, they have not dried out due to the sun, as the leaves are still moist, and i have made sure that the soil is not to wet, so im not sure why they are dying back. I have tried setting a second set of seeds, and hope that i will have more luck, but we will have to see how things go…

Sweetpea trellis

My sweet peas have outgrown their plant pot on the windowsill and as you can see from my previous post, they are only standing up with the aid of the window. So today I set them up on this trellis. Earlier in the week i created a frame for my pea’s but I wasn’t sure one of those would be tal enough for the sweetpea plants so I invested in this trellis… It was a little tricky separating them from their original plant pot as all the roots were greatly tangled but they should be a lot happier in here with extra room for their roots to grow and support from the trellis. Because there tendril’s have not had chance to grow onto the trellis yet I loosely attached parts of each plant to the trellis to encourage them to grow up…

Sweetpeas

I have also been growing some sweetpeas, which i had origanlly intended to match with my peas for a little extra colour, however they are exceeding everything else I set a the smae time. At theĀ  minute they are in the stairs windowsill, were they can be suported by the glass, however soon i need a support for them before they start willting. The sunflowers seeds i set at the same time are also doing well, and I repot them today into a larger pot. The lavender however has not come along great so far but i am still hopefull! :)
