Living the Good Life…

Adventures of the garden patch

Sunflowers :)

Since re-potting my sunflowers, so last week, the extra room, and support from the bamboo sticks has really kicked off their growth. The stems have become thicker, and taller, and one has even produced a bud…

At night i have been placing them back in the greenhouse while they acclimatize to being outside, and in the daytime, i bring them out so they have a full view of the sun.

Last wave of seeds…

These are my last batch of seedlings it’s probably a little bit late for the Alicante tomatoes but im hoping, they will catch up in the green house they seem to be growing very quickly in the windowsill, they all like the nice volume of sunshine, and the nice heat through the window. The sweetpeas are also doing really well i am thinking of just re-potting them straight into the trellis when they get a little bit bigger, so that they don’t have to experience too much root disturbance and have a chance of growing nice big roots from early on. Again the sunflowers are doing really well and are growing height fairly quickly. This time I have planted just three to a small pot and they have grown a lot quicker with the extra room to grow, i also think that they will be easier to re-plant, as their roots will not be as tangled as the last sunflower plants…

As you can see on the right is my first attempt of growing lavender from seed, the shoots only came up slowly, and then all of a sudden in the last week, they have all started dying, they have not dried out due to the sun, as the leaves are still moist, and i have made sure that the soil is not to wet, so im not sure why they are dying back. I have tried setting a second set of seeds, and hope that i will have more luck, but we will have to see how things go…

sunflower sunbathing

With out nice and strong today, me and Gaz decided to try to organise the garden a bit, and to make sure the sunflowers got the best of the sun all day long, Gaz placed them up onto the flat section of our back wall… They seem to be growing really well, since I re-planted them into these bigger pots, and with nice sunshine like this they should grown even taller!
