Adventures of the garden patch

Raspberry

My Raspberry plant has been the same, it has also had the chance to grow back. Late Feb early march it started to grow new shoots but they were eaten by the remaining caterpillars, however since spraying I haven’t seen any yet and in the last week with the increase of sunshine it has really started to bush out…

Revived mint

My Mint plant has finally revived, last year it was ravaged by the caterpillars to the point were there was almost nothing left, over the winter a few patches remained, since it has started to get warmer I have made sure it is is in a nice sunny spot, fed it regularly  and even took some little shoots off in case is died back. Until now I wasn’t having much luck but now its seems to have grown back all at once and since I sprayed my plants a couple of weeks ago with the caterpillar spray so far touch wood everything is getting a chance to grow back… and not a caterpillar in sight

Apple Tree

When I got my new fruit trees, they had little to no leaves and only 1-2 buds which were yellow and frail due to lack of sunlight, I got them from B&M bargains of all places £2 each! but subsequently they were encased in cardboard and this is why there foliage was dying back, however i could see the new shoots still forming and trees looked well established even though they were cut back. Since potting them up, I have regularly watered and fed them and now it’s nice to see some health green leaves forming and new green shoots…

New Everbearer Strawberry Plants

This year I have decided to grow lots of strawberries and berries so that I can make jam and cordials later in the year, These are my new strawberry plants that I have bought this year which are Everbearer Albion which flower and fruit all the way from June through to October (weather permitting).

1st veg patch of the year

IMG_7416 IMG_7417

Before planting I treated the soil with the caterpillar spray, feed and a good churn. Hopefully this will have destroyed any eggs that were hiding in the soil.
